Food truck insurance

Booked the event? Now they want a certificate of insurance.

Markets, festivals, and catering clients often require proof of insurance before you can serve, usually by a hard deadline. Redoubt helps food truck operators line up the right coverage and get a clean COI to the organizer on time.

Insurance is not a permit

Where insurance fits next to your permits

Health permits, food-handler cards, and event permits come from local government and food-safety authorities. Insurance is a separate requirement. Redoubt does not issue permits — we help with the coverage and the certificate of insurance that contracts and organizers ask for.

Handled by permitting authorities

Health inspections, food-handler permits, fire and propane sign-offs, and event vendor permits.

Where Redoubt helps

Insurance coverage and certificates of insurance that satisfy event, venue, and contract requirements.

Coverage considerations

What food truck coverage usually involves

Every operation is different. These are the coverages that most often come up for food trucks and the documents events request.

General liability

Responds to many third-party bodily injury or property damage claims at a market, festival, or private event. It is the coverage most event COIs ask about.

Commercial auto

Your truck or trailer is also a vehicle on the road. Commercial auto addresses driving exposures that a personal policy usually will not.

Equipment & property

Cooking equipment, generators, and on-board property can be expensive to replace. Coverage options help when something is damaged or stolen.

Workers compensation

If you have employees, workers comp may be required and may also be requested by larger venues. The answer depends on your team and payroll.

Event certificates (COIs)

Organizers frequently require a certificate of insurance, often naming the venue or host as an additional insured by a specific date.

Getting to a quote

What Redoubt needs to review or quote your truck

The fastest path is to send the event or certificate language along with a few details about your operation. The more specific the requirement, the faster we can work toward the right coverage and a usable COI.

Frequently asked questions

Food truck insurance FAQ

How fast can I get a certificate of insurance for an event?+

A certificate summarizes coverage that is already in force, so a policy generally needs to be bound first. If you already have an active policy, a certificate for an event can often be requested quickly. Share the deadline and the organizer’s requirements so we can work backward from the date.

Does Redoubt issue my food permit or health permit?+

No. Redoubt is an insurance agency, not a government agency. Health permits, food-handler cards, and event permits are issued by local authorities. We help with the insurance and certificate-of-insurance side, which is a separate requirement from those permits.

What does an event organizer usually ask for?+

Most organizers ask for a certificate of insurance showing general liability coverage, sometimes at a specific limit, and often naming the event or venue as an additional insured. Some larger events also ask about commercial auto or workers compensation.

Do I need commercial auto if I tow a trailer?+

It depends on how the trailer and tow vehicle are used and titled. Business use of a vehicle is often outside the scope of a personal auto policy, so commercial auto is worth reviewing. We can talk through your specific setup.

I only do a few events a year. Do I still need coverage?+

Many part-time and seasonal operators still need coverage because the requirement comes from the event or contract, not from how often you operate. Even a single booking can require a certificate of insurance before you are allowed on site.
